Have you tasted the official dessert of Massachusetts? It's the timeless and delicious Boston Cream Pie that just oozes with goodness thanks to those yummy layers of moist vanilla sponge cake and pastry cream, then later topped with delicious chocolate ganache. What's not to like, right?
The Armenian-French chef Sanzian of the Parker House Hotel in Boston is credited with the invention of the Boston Cream Pie in the year 1856. At that time, it was called "Chocolate Cream Pie." The original name was updated over time, and by 1958, the Boston Cream Pie had gained such popularity that it was used as a recipe for a Betty Crocker boxed cake mix. Not only that, it was mentioned in many cookbooks - the earliest one was in Miss Parloa's Kitchen Companion in 1887. On December 12, 1996, Boston cream pie was declared the official state dessert of Massachusetts. A few years later, the Boston Cream Donut was recognized as the official state donut, but that's another story for another time.
