We have a theory that when you ask people to choose between chocolate or caramel, they’ll probably answer, “That’s like asking who my favorite child is!” Okay, we admit it’s difficult to choose between the two. Much like there shouldn’t be any favoritism when it comes to your children (if you have one, though, your secret is safe with us), we can’t choose chocolate over caramel too. Thank goodness we have loads of treats that combine the two together!
Let’s look at a brief history of how the path of these two indulgent treats intersected and gave birth to what we now know as chocolate caramel.
Milton Snavely Hershey pioneered caramel production in the United States, while the first mass-produced chocolate bars were being developed around the late 1800s in Great Britain. Through trial and error, discoveries and improvements were made by different manufacturers, often to outshine the competition. Needless to say, chocolate and caramel enjoyed immense popularity in America and around the world. It was in 1912 when the Standard Candy Company in Nashville, Tennessee, introduced the “Goo Goo Cluster.” It made history as the world’s first combo bar. It was made of peanuts, caramel, and marshmallow, then covered in a delicious layer of milk chocolate.
As we celebrate National Chocolate Caramel Day, let’s remember that a sweet treat is better when shared. So why not share your love for scrumptious treats with your customers?
