Did you visualize a bowl of M&Ms?
Now that we’ve probably made you drool and probably crave these candy-coated chocolates, how about we learn more about their rich history?
M&Ms were first manufactured by M&M’S Limited in New Jersey, founded by Forrest E. Mars, Sr. The inspiration behind M&Ms came from his travels abroad when he witnessed British soldiers eating hard candy shell candies with a chocolate center called “Smarties.” Upon his return to America, he partnered with Bruce Murrie, the son of the president of Hershey’s. They built Mars & Murrie, the company that would manufacture one of the most beloved chocolate candies in the world. Due to their popularity in the 1950s, many tried to imitate these candies. The company then decided to stamp each candy with an “M” to distinguish it from the rest. From their humble origins in New Jersey, M&Ms became the first chocolate candies brought to space and, in 1984, became the Olympics Games’ official snack.
