School libraries would be little more than a collection of books and computers if it weren't for librarians. They are essential to the effectiveness of learning programs that contribute to students' educational development. Many school librarians believe that cultivating knowledge is the cornerstone of lifelong learning and they go out of their way to help students learn more effectively. Aside from their obvious task of organizing books, school librarians are responsible for ensuring that students and teachers successfully find relevant information using library resources.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics of the United States Department of Education, a library or media center was present in about 82,300 public schools from 2015 to 2016 (about 91% of all public schools). As more children comb through learning materials online, the number of school librarians in America has been steadily declining. There are several reasons for this, but that doesn't mean school librarians are of no use to schools and students. More than ever, school librarians are needed to help children process information through different media and guide them through research principles that enable them to learn properly.
We think that school librarians in America deserve recognition and respect, not only on National School Librarian Day. What better way to celebrate this day than to encourage reading? Help children learn helpful information about home safety and healthy eating with these books that are perfect for giveaways for children's events.
